Quick to Change the Opinion

When the decision was being made whether it is worth bringing slot machines into the State of Maryland, The city of Ocean City was against this. But now after slots were legalized, Ocean City would seem to have changed their opinion.

The struggle for keeping slot machines out of the state that Ocean City carried on was hard and long and lasted for years. They were sure that it would destroy their community. The leaders of the city asserted that the slot machines would ultimately cause the growth of crime and addiction. They carried on massive campaigns against slot machines supporters, and prayed that they could win.

Nevertheless, early in November, Maryland residents voted that slot machines should be legalized in the state again. Most of the state’s citizens wanted slot machines to come in. Many of those who voted for slots legalization were from Ocean City. At the point the Ocean City Town Council may seem to have decided to act using the motto “if you cannot beat them, then join them”.

The Ocean City Town Council is asked to hold up legislation allowing fraternal organizations to manage slots. The Ocean City Elks Lodge group wishes it would be allowed to have slots. They assert that slots would allow them to donate a great deal of money for charity. The Ocean City Elks Lodge group has already discussed this matter with the state lawmakers and they hope the town council will also support them. It is considered practically to be a settled question locally, since the Ocean City Town Council seems to be very enthusiastic over the idea of legalizing slots for the group.
